'In the long run, we are all dead': What did Keynes really mean?
The impression that Krugman wants to convey is that only the stimulus-crowd wants to make things better now, but is he right?

If we are all dead in the long run, then Keynes-Krugman must argue that we are all dead in the short run as well, too.

All of this confusion could have been avoided if Krugman did not follow Keynes in his disrespect and disregard for those who dare to disagree.

ケインズ"...In the long run we are all dead..."の部分の和訳

Paul Krugman がブログでAlan Greenspanを批判している。自分がＦＲＢ議長であったときにバブルを見ようとせず何もしなかったのに、現在の米国の金融危機に対して淡々と評価をし、レッセ・フェールを再確認して文章（ＦＴへの寄稿）を終えているGreenspanの姿勢を批判したのだが、その中でKrugmanは、ケインズの『貨幣改革論』での有名な文章：

What Keynes said:

In the long run we are all dead. Economists set themselves too easy, too useless a task if in tempestuous seasons they can only tell us that when the storm is long past the ocean is flat again.

を引用している。Greenspanをケインズがここで批判的に書いているようなエコノミストであるといっているのだが、この部分の和訳を、参考までにググッてみた（英語の意味は大体分かるのだが、日本語にする時どうするかとふと思ったので）。実は、ここの部分のすべての日本語訳を載せたサイトはほとんどないことが分かったのだが、最初に、官僚ブログで有名なbewaad氏のブログのプロフィールが出てくる。bewaadというＨＮはまさにこのケインズの文章に由来するからだが、そこでは一つ前の文章から書き始められているが、

（長期では（なんとかなるさ）、って考え方では、今どうすりゃいいの、ってことはうまくいかなくなりがち。 長期では、みんなくたばっちまうんだ。 大荒れの時期に、嵐がどっかに行けばまた静かな海が戻ってくるさ、ってことしか言えないなら、経済学者ってずいぶんとお気楽で、役立たずな連中なんだって自分自身を貶めちゃってるよね。）

という訳。bewaad氏自身の考え方まで織り込んでしまっている。さて、もう一つの検索結果もみると、

政府や専門家の思わせぶりな甘言にもかかわらず、長期不況からの出口は依然として見えないが、日銀を含む経済官僚や銀行家、経済学者、エコノミスト、諸々のアナリスト(w の無能さが白日のもとにさらされたことだけは良いことだったと思う｡さて上の英語はケインズの有名な言葉だが、以下の訳はいかがなものか。

(1)長期では（なんとかなるさ）、って考え方では、今どうすりゃいいの、ってことはうまくいかなくなりがち。 長期では、みんなくたばっちまうんだ。大荒れの時期に、嵐がどっかに行けばまた静かな海が戻ってくるさ、ってことしか言えないなら、経済学者ってずいぶんとお気楽で、役立たずな連中なんだって自分自身を貶めちゃってるよね。
(2)････長期的にみると、われわれはみな死んでしまう。 嵐の最中にあって、経済学者にいえることが、ただ、嵐が遠く過ぎ去れば波はまた静まるであろう、ということだけならば、彼らの仕事は他愛なく無用である

（1)は先ほどのbewaad氏の訳。(2)は出典不明（ケインズ全集？）。いずれにしろ、「以下の訳はいかがなものか」というのは同感。たいした能力もないが、私なりに訳してみると、

「この"長期"というものは、現下の問題に対しては誤った指針になる。長期的には我々はみな死んでしまっているのだ。経済学者が、嵐の吹くような激動の時期に「嵐が遠く過ぎ去ったときには海は再び平穏になるものだ」ということしか言えないのであれば、彼らは、あまりに安易で無用な仕事を自分に課していることになる。」
